- In 2011, a project of a universal 3D scanning software complex "Russian3DScanner" by Andrew Krovopuskov – a student of the Faculty of Computer Sciences at VSU – won the first prize in the "Innovation Technology Business – 2011" national competition, and its author was granted an opportunity to complete an internship programme at the Silicon Valley business incubator (USA, California);
- In May 2011, a course on "Modern Web Technologies" by Alexander Sychev – Associate Professor of the Faculty of Computer Sciences at VSU – was the most popular training course in the world among those posted on the website of the Microsoft Facility Resource Center, which aims to assist lecturers, students, and various professionals, in learning Microsoft technologies;
- In December 2011, Artem Kozhokin – a student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics at VSU – became the first person from Voronezh to win the first prize in the Traditional Karate World Cup in Serbia;
- In May 2014, Yuriy Perin – Lecturer of the Faculty of Physics at VSU – came first in the Masters category of the V International Berlin Swimming Championship, setting a 100 m backstroke and a 200m backstroke record;
- In May 2014, a project on creating a new chitosan-based wound-healing medicine by Pavel Fedosov, a student of the Faculty of Pharmaceutics, won the first prize at the regional "StartUp Search – 2014" campaign. It was granted support and consulting assistance for participation in the V National Forum "Youth Innovation Centre – 2014";
- In May 2014, Alexey Efremov – Associate Professor of the Law Faculty of VSU – became a winner in the "Information Law" nomination of the "Legal Russia" IX National Professional Competition;
- In June 2014, the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of Voronezh State University was awarded to Prof Vitaliy V. Naumkin, Dr. habil. in History, Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who has given a public lecture at VSU;
- In September 2014, Zhores Alferov, the winner of 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics, guest lectured at Voronezh State University.
